About me

gen kogure
A reformed road racer who used to scorn track riding, I've learned to enjoy the track community as I've become a little gray. Raised in California but here I am in the Southeast.

Squadra Della Pista: Cane Creek - Masi

The Cane Creek-Masi team is all about drinking, eating, and having fun. Ok, the having fun part is true and we're not above drinking and eating either.

Our sponsors:

WNC Barbell -- Providing as much iron as we want. A great supporter of track cycling making it possible for some of our younger riders.
Cane Creek -- Fine purveyors of carbon rims with the smoothest running hubs around. I'll never go back to my Hed disk and trispoke...
MASI -- Our team is riding on the Masi Coltello, the knife. Please don't call it a fixie. It's a track bike at home on a tight 200m Bahn as well as on our Mellowdrome.
Sigma -- One of the things I used to hate when I worked in a shop was mounting cyclocomputers. Sigma has provided us with these fantastic wireless cyclocomputers that actually work and are easy to set up. We're also using some really nice grippy Sigma track mits too.
Powerbar -- Brought sports nutrition to the masses. Founded in my hometown of Bezerkley, California.
Dehlia Low-- New for this year -- Dehlia Low is a new Asheville band combining an old timey bluegrass and classic country sound with fresh energy. Dehlia Low features hard-hitting duet and harmony singing backed up by masterful dobro and mandolin playing, lively fiddling, and a booming upright bass.

Cast of Characters

  • Darin Marhanka -- Overall winner of the 2007 Carolina track season. I can't count how many times he blew my doors off last year. Tactically astute, tons of power, and a great turn of speed.
  • Johnny -- The PATRON. A wrestler who can ride a good kilo. If Gagg ever decides to take a 2x4 to me, Johnny's going to be in my corner so he can fireman's carry him onto the hood of his stupid BMW.
  • Josh Coaplen -- aka "SJ" (small Josh) He's not really small, and he must be really smart because he's a Cal Engineering grad. He's also a good all-arounder who can roll and sprint.
  • Matt Dinsmore -- His math powers aren't too great, but he's our ace sprinter. Go on a ride with Matt and you probably learn anything you want about Nader, Chomsky, or Terkel. He also rode a 1:15 in his first ever kilo. On our flat track...
  • Kid Gary -- Started on mountain bikes but now he's skidding and track standing all over the place. His wiry frame disguises a quick first lap in the team sprint.
  • Gen Kogure -- a scrapper
  • Kevin Lisska -- An elite triathlete that doesn't know any better. Way too much strength than he knows what to do with.
  • Josh Reddoch -- an old hand who cut his teeth in the Southwest and Socal. A diesel who's not happy unless he's attacking.
  • Ray Von Dohlen -- A modern day Plinkerton. With a name like that he's definitely a real Bahnrennfahrer. Racing since his teens, he has a good turn of speed and power.
